Getting started

BeyondMS is a free, fan-run MapleStory server based on the classic version 0.83 (2009), with a rebirth system: at level 200 you start again in a new job at level 10, keeping some power each time. You'll need a Windows PC (there's a community guide for Mac too).

Make an account and download the gameGo to beyond-ms.com, make an account, and use Download client (also under Installation). Extract it with 7-Zip or WinRAR into a new folder on your Desktop – the installer password in the community guide is asd. Then run the Beyond Updater so your files are up to date. Needs in-game check: the exact download page on beyond-ms.com and whether the installer password is still "asd"
If the game won't startInstall the Visual C++ runtimes and DirectX (links in the Discord #faq), add the whole BeyondMS folder to your antivirus exclusions, and run BeyondMS.exe as administrator. Logging in the first time can fail once – just try again. On the first login, log out of the Updater before you press Play, or you can't scroll the Terms window.
Create your characterPick a name and look – looks can be changed later. Only the five Explorer classes are available: Warrior, Magician, Bowman (Archer), Thief and Pirate. You choose your class at level 8–10, not at creation.
Choose a class (you can change it every rebirth)Don't stress: every rebirth lets you pick a new job and keep two skills, so you'll play several classes anyway. Andrew recommends starting as a Magician (Magician → Cleric → Priest → Bishop) – see the class table below. The official BeyondMS guide recommends the same path as the fastest early leveling. Some newer Discord routes start as a Warrior instead, because the Cute Newbie Medal from @beyond (250 weapon attack at RB0, shrinking each rebirth and gone at RB8) only helps weapon classes. Mage first still gets you Genesis and Holy Symbol, the two skills you save at your first rebirth.
Learn the handful of commands you'll use dailyType commands into the normal All chat (they don't work in party/guild/whisper chat). The list below covers the basics; type @commands in game for the full list.

Andrew's pick for your first character: Magician, then Cleric → Priest → Bishop. Bishops hit whole maps with Genesis and carry Holy Symbol (bonus EXP), which is exactly what you save at your first rebirth.

Warrior	Tough and forgiving. Paladin's Heaven's Hammer carries low-damage rebirths at LHC; Dark Knight's Dragon Roar clears big maps.	Melee: you have to walk up to monsters.
Magician	Hits many monsters from range. Cleric/Priest Heal damages undead monsters, which is why the classic first route trains at undead maps; Bishops bring Holy Symbol (more EXP) and Genesis.	Fragile and MP-hungry early. Different elements (fire, ice, lightning, holy) matter – some monsters resist or are weak to them.
Bowman	Safe ranged damage. Marksman has the fastest attack and great damage, which is why Andrew's route plays it from RB8 to RB12 for LHC and FDH. Bowmaster works but is slower.	Fewer bowman guides on the Discord so far.
Thief	Night Lord's Avenger hits from far away; Flash Jump + Shadow Partner are favourite free starter skills for every class.	Low HP early.
Pirate	Buccaneers are named for late-game China mini-boss farming; Corsairs have their own paths.	Fewer beginner guides on the Discord so far.

Key commands

@beyond: Free “journey reward” boxes at levels 10, 30, 70 and 120 – potions, gear and the items you need for job advancements. Don't forget it!
@goto <town> / @goto fm: Teleport to towns and the Free Market (FM). Town travel needs a ticket: 1 vote point for a day at the vote NPC, or a 1-month Donor pass. @go fm works for everyone from level 10.
@str / @dex / @int / @luk [n]: Put your ability points (AP) into a stat, e.g. @int 40.
@sell equip <slot>: Sell every equip after that inventory slot in one go – great for money while training.
@exp [minutes]: Measure your EXP per minute to compare training spots.
@mobcount: How many monsters the current map has.
@unlockskill: Unlocks 4th-job skills that normally need quests (now done automatically at 4th job).
@dailylogin: Daily login reward – claim it every day (Andrew).
@vote / @donor: Spend vote points and donor points.
@achievement: Daily achievements, which pay Perfect Pitch (the server's own currency).
@mb (or @monsterbook): Monster Book Ring: collect monster cards for permanent stats.
@fish / @fishing: Fishing shop (fishing needs level 120).
@bank: Premium bank, if you bought it (20 donor points).
@servertime: Server clock – handy for boss timers and reports.
@acp / @allcure / @autoallcure: Status-cure helpers (added Jun 20, 2026).

Level 1 to 10 and your first job

Your character starts on Maple Island, a small tutorial island. Its quests teach the controls and give a little gear. Every quest you finish also counts toward the Quest Ring (+1 to all stats per 30 quests, up to +25).

Do the Maple Island questsTalk to NPCs with a lightbulb over their head. Start with Roger's Apple (from Roger, it teaches you to use potions), then Mai's Training, Mai's First Training and Mai's Second Training from Mai. Hunt Snails and Red Snails nearby. See every island quest in Questing → Maple Island.
Leave Maple Island at level 8At level 8 you can leave Maple Island and job advance (Andrew). From Southperry, ride to Lith Harbor. (Shortcut from the community: after your first login, log out, type unstuck as the password – "Incorrect password" is normal – then log in with your real password. Your level-1 character is moved to Henesys and can level at Henesys Hunting Ground I instead.)
Pick your class and do your first job advancementRecommended: Magician – Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia (Becoming a Magician, from level 8). Other classes (level 10): Warrior – Dances with Balrog in Perion (Becoming a Warrior) · Magician – Grendel the Really Old in Ellinia (Becoming a Magician) · Bowman – Athena Pierce in Henesys (Becoming a Bowman) · Thief – Dark Lord in Kerning City (Becoming a Thief) · Pirate – Kyrin in Nautilus (Becoming a Pirate).
Before you advance further: save 2 free skills at the statueType @beyond at level 10 and equip what you get. Then go to the Free Market (@go fm) and talk to the Mushroom Statue, which lets you save two free skills from any class. Andrew recommends Poison Mist (a Fire/Poison Mage skill that damages everything in an area) plus one skill of your choice. While you're still at rebirth 0 you may swap them once, so you can change your mind before your first rebirth.
Put your stat points in the right placeEach level gives 5 AP. Use one command to put them in your main stat: warriors @str, magicians @int, bowmen @dex, thieves @luk, pirates @str or @dex depending on gun/knuckle. No HP washing is needed on BeyondMS. Needs in-game check: pirate stat advice (STR for knuckles, DEX for guns) is standard v83, not from a BeyondMS post

Tips

Optional training boost: the job's Training Center quest from Power B. Fore / Power B. Fore and friends (Power B. Fore) jumps a new character to about level 16 (first Lv. 200 guide).

Training levels 10 to 200 (rebirth 0)

At rebirth 0 you get the highest EXP rate: 20x. Here's the community route for levels 10–120, then Andrew's pick for 120–200. The Leveling page ranks spots for your exact level and class.

Level 10–35: Rotting Skeletons in the Haunted HouseChimney Possessed by the Skeletons (Rotting Skeleton, level 20, 31 on the map). From New Leaf City, take the Hammer Taxi on the left to the Haunted Mansion. At level 30, @beyond again and do your 2nd job (instructor videos are linked in the Discord's job-advancement thread). Mages can also grind Jr. Wraiths at Line 2 <Area 1> (1.8–2M EXP/min in the first Lv. 200 guide).
Level 35–70: Scarecrows, then JestersChimney Possessed by the Scarecrow (Dead Scarecrow, level 50), then Chimney Possessed by the Clown (Twisted Jester, level 70). At 70, @beyond and do your 3rd job (El Nath, Chief's Residence; the quiz answers are on hidden-street).
Level 70–120: ULU2, Petrifighters or Lionheart CastleUlu City in Singapore (ULU2, then Petrifighters), or Lionheart Castle (LHC) roofs if you have a party or a strong class. Mages can stay on Scarecrows with Heal + Summon Dragon until 120. At 120, @beyond and do your 4th job.
Level 120–200: Skeles (Andrew's pick)Andrew's recommended spot for levels 120–200 of your first life is Skeles – Skelegons and Skelosauruss at Nest of a Dead Dragon in Leafre. Ninja Castle (Nintos) is an alternative once you kill them in one or two hits; Andrew suggests it only up to RB5. See the training finder.
Do quests along the wayQuests give EXP, items and Quest Ring progress. Type your level into Questing and it shows what you can start right now, closest to your level first.

Tips

Potions: set your potions in the AutoHP/MP slots; @beyond gives higher-level potions at 30 and 70. Red Potion and White Potion from any town potion shop are enough early on.
Money: sell junk equips with @sell equip <slot> as you train – the first Lv. 200 guide reaches about 8M mesos by level 50 and 40M by 120 just from that.
Galaxy Field: maps nobody has hunted for a while give up to +50% EXP (stage 10), for your whole party, on every channel. A quiet map can beat a busy one.
Party EXP: since Oct 8, 2026, party EXP depends on damage dealt and level: if one member does all the damage they get about 80% of the base party pool and the rest is shared by level. Party bonuses are on top (server 18%, Haven 25%). Two partners of equal damage each get about 0.5 × 1.18 = 59% of a kill's EXP, so if together you kill twice as fast as alone you each make about 118% of your solo EXP – which is why partnering still pays at LHC.
Measure: use @exp for a minute at two spots and keep the better one.

Your first rebirth

At level 200 you can rebirth: your character goes back to level 10 in a job you choose, keeps two skills from the life you just finished and keeps 800 ability points. Every rebirth makes you permanently stronger, but your EXP rate goes down (20x at RB0, 18x at RB1, 16x at RB2 …).

Before you rebirth: your starter skills are locked inAt rebirth 0 you can change your two Mushroom Statue skills once; after your first rebirth that free change is gone (later swaps cost mesos). Andrew's pick stays the same: Poison Mist plus one skill of your choice.
Before you rebirth: ask the statue about the one-time 0-rebirth rewardAn in-game tip says: before your first rebirth, ask the Mosthorn Statue about its one-time 0-rebirth reward. Needs in-game check: the statue's exact name (Mosthorn / Mastermind / Mushroom Statue?), where it stands, and what the reward is Some players also visit the Goddess statue on Orbis Tower 8th floor for Echo of Hero before rebirth 1. At level 200: pick the 2 skills to keep, then your new jobRebirth at the NPC in the Free Market: choose 2 skills from your current job to save, then choose the job you'll be reborn as. You keep 800 AP and the two skills. Maple Warrior and Hero's Will carry over automatically – don't waste a pick on them.
After rebirth: job advance at KaedenFrom rebirth 1 on you can skip the job-advancement quests: @goto fm and talk to Kaeden for 2nd, 3rd and 4th job. Your first AP reset is free at the Small Spirit in Fishing Village (RB0–1 free, then it costs mesos).
Plan your rebirth jobs (Andrew's skill path)Each rebirth, pick a job and save its two best skills. Andrew's path is in the table below and on the Leveling page. You play your whole first life (1–200) as a Bishop, so at your first rebirth you save Genesis and Holy Symbol. Holy Shield comes back at RB9 – you need it for bossing. The repeated Marksman lives (RB8–12) are for leveling speed: Marksman has the fastest attack and great damage at LHC and FDH.
Next steps: follow the rebirth routeAndrew's route: RB0 Skeles (from level 120) → RB1–12 LHC2 Rooftop, partnering → RB12–25 FDH → RB25–55 China boss (only with 400k+ range; otherwise stay at FDH) → RB55+ KC5, or from RB50 with good gear (zellon, via Andrew). From RB50, Haven / Scrapyard is another option (25% party EXP bonus). The Leveling page shows it with details for your class.

Be a Marksman at RB12. Marksman has the fastest attack and great damage, which makes it the quickest class to level at LHC and First Drill Hall (FDH), the next stop on the route. Bowmaster works too but is slower (Andrew, in-game).

How to read it: each row is one rebirth – the job you play during that life and the 2 skills you save from it when you rebirth. Your first life (Lv 1–200) is Bishop, so at your first rebirth (RB1) you save Genesis and Holy Symbol; then you play Hero and save Advanced Combo and Combo Attack at RB2, and so on. Holy Shield (RB9) is a must for bossing (Andrew); on BeyondMS it blocks debuffs and stuns (Rebirth skill tier list, bumblebutt, Aug 2026). The RB10–11 picks follow the official BeyondMS New Player Guide roadmap (Cara, Aug 30, 2026), which is a recommendation only; the Mushroom Statue shows which skills can be saved.

The Monster Book ring (do this!)

The single biggest free power boost for a new player. Every monster can drop its own monster card, and collecting them permanently raises the stats on your Monster Book ring.

Get your free ring with @mbType @mb (or @monsterbook) to get the Monster Book ring for free. The same command shows your current bonus and how many cards you still need. You can also hover over the ring in your equipment window.
Collect cards while you trainWhen you kill a monster it can drop that monster's card. 5 cards of one monster = that card is mastered.
Every 5 mastered cards = +1 on the ringEach time you master 5 different cards, the ring gets +1 to all stats, up to +77. Easy early monsters are the fastest masteries – hunt a few of each on the way through Victoria Island, and browse targets in the Monster Book.

Andrew calls the Monster Book ring the biggest single reason he hits about 2.5M damage while others at his rebirth hit about 1.5M. Start collecting from day one.

Gear and money basics

You can get surprisingly far with free gear. Don't worry about perfect equipment during your first life – focus on levelling, and pick up these easy permanent upgrades.

Wear what @beyond gives you, upgrade your weapon firstEarly on, any gear works ("I skated by with an umbrella and noob gear for a number of full INT rebirths" – kairi). When you start caring about damage, your weapon is always the first thing to improve.
The weapon path (kairi's Gearing in Beyond)1) Get a Timeless weapon (Pink Bean drop or Maker). 2) Scroll it with 10% weapon attack scrolls plus White Scrolls, using Vega's 10% from Inkwell. 3) Use 2 hammers for 2 more slots and scroll those too (2 hammers cost 30 Salmon in @fish). 4) Upgrade it to a Von Leon weapon at the Von Leon NPC in Fishing Village (5 Von Leon points) and scroll it again. 5) Upgrade it to an Empress weapon (15 Cygnus points from the Empress boss) and scroll it again. Only Timeless weapons upgrade to Von Leon; your other gear starts at the Von Leon stage.
Switching Von Leon / Empress gear to another classVon Leon and Empress gear can be converted to another class's version: free twice a week, then 50m mesos each (Equipment Guide, おっさん; Andrew).
Fill your two forever ringsThe Quest Ring (+1 all stats per 30 quests, max +25 at 750 quests) and the Monster Book ring. You'll never take these off, so level them as you play.
Earn Perfect Pitch (PP) every dayPerfect Pitch buys the best scrolls (Vega's scrolls at Inkwell in Fishing Village). Get it from daily achievements (@achievement), party quests (up to 100 PP a day), fishing (from level 120, no cap) and – the most – weekly bosses. For the party-quest PP, LMPQ runs take under a minute with 3 players, which the Discord calls the fastest way to the daily cap (K, Apr 2026). Needs in-game check: is LMPQ still the fastest way to the 100 PP daily cap now that Ludibrium PQ, Ellin PQ, Pirate PQ and Romeo & Juliet PQ also give bonus scrolls (Aug 2, 2026)?
Get married for APQAPQ needs you to be married (a mule partner is fine) and is still worth running for Onyx Apples and Shoe ATK 60% scrolls (Andrew, in-game).
Andrew's money spotsSlimes in Henesys Ruins – about 600–700m mesos an hour (Andrew, in-game). Henesys Ruins (Future Henesys) unlocks at RB5 and is reached through the Temple of Time. Needs in-game check: which Henesys Ruins map has the Slimes, and the route from the Temple of Time Ulu City, the farthest-right map (Singapore) – about 500m an hour (Andrew, in-game). Needs in-game check: exact name of the farthest-right Ulu City map – best candidate is the Petrifighter map, "two maps to the right of ULU2" in Henn's route Skeles in Leafre – Skelegons at Nest of a Dead Dragon, once you're stronger. China's 1st floor (about 150m an hour with pet vac in a Discord post) isn't worth it for money by comparison. Always sell junk with @sell equip <slot> as you go.
Every day: @dailylogin and @voteClaim @dailylogin and vote, then spend points with @vote. White Scrolls come from Gachapon: trade 10 vote points for 35 Gachapon tickets, or buy tickets from players (about 15M mesos per ticket as of Oct 11, 2026). Two other sources: Randolf's White Scroll Fragment exchange in Fishing Village (the price only rises from Prestige 2), and Inkwell's Perfect Pitch shop (about 380 PP each, kairi). Voting rules, and what donating doesYou can vote twice a day on beyond-ms.com (resets at 00:00 UTC = 5 PM PT) for vote points – spend them with @vote (1 VP buys a 1-day Donor Travel Ticket for @goto at Voxy; still current, Andrew). More than twice a day, or using extra accounts, is vote abuse and bannable; households with several players can apply for whitelisting. Donating gives Donor Points for cosmetics and conveniences (a month of @goto, the premium @bank) – no gameplay power, so it's not pay-to-win.

Tips

Later goals from the Equipment Guide: a Horntail Necklace (big defence), a Green Mask from Toad and a Blackfist Cloak from CWKPQ.
Don't put off bossing: some bosses need earlier boss kills first, which takes weeks (gearing guide).

Where to go next

Once you've rebirthed a few times, bossing becomes the main way to get stronger and earn Perfect Pitch.

Start the boss prequestsBossing lists every boss in a sensible order with step-by-step prequests – usually Zakum and Horntail first. Toad needs rebirth 5 and 10 Pink Bean kills; Von Leon needs rebirth 5 and 10 Toad kills (Cara's New Player Guide; no later change log changes this).
